Vilayur Grama Panchayat is a border local body situated in the Pattambi Taluk, within the Pattambi Block of Palakkad district. The major geographical features of the Panchayat are detailed below:

- The Panchayat is located at the northernmost extremity of Palakkad district, nestled along the banks of the Kunthipuzha river, a major tributary of the Bharathapuzha.
- Historically, this village was an integral part of the renowned Valluvanad region in the erstwhile Malabar district.

The boundaries of Vilayur Panchayat are shared between Malappuram and Palakkad districts:
- North & West: The Kunthipuzha river, across which lie the Pulamanthole and Moorkanad Grama Panchayats of Malappuram district.
- East: Kulukallur Grama Panchayat (Palakkad).
- South: Koppam and Thiruvegappura Grama Panchayats (Palakkad).

- The total area of the Panchayat is approximately 17.73 square kilometers.
- The terrain is characterized by plains interspersed with gentle hill slopes. Due to the presence of the Kunthipuzha river, the region is highly water-abundant and features soil that is well-suited for agriculture.

- The Kunthipuzha river, flowing along the northwestern boundary, serves as the primary water resource for the Panchayat. It plays a crucial role in maintaining local groundwater levels and extensively supporting agricultural activities.

- According to the 2011 Census, the population is approximately 23,389 (though certain local administrative records estimate it at 17,873).
- The average population density stands at over 1,000 individuals per square kilometer. Administratively, the Panchayat is currently divided into 17 wards.
